Choose a time when you will stop. The line you draw is not flexible, stick to it and call it a day! To make sure this is easier and you’re not still busy with work after closing your laptop and putting your work phone on silent, stop half an hour earlier for reflection and planning.
What tasks from the daily to-do’s are left? When is there a new opportunity to work on these? What items will be addressed for the rest the next time you go to work?
Make sure you have clarity on this and write it down so it doesn’t get in your way anymore. Therefore, don’t look at new emails just before closing either!
Also, when you have closed for the day, try to do nothing at all! While we plan work days, we often don’t do that for our rest days.
Make sure your recovery moments are arranged in a meaningful way. Activities that satisfy, require physical energy but give it back mentally, something crazy, something creative or something completely new to you – variety is key. Plan your variety, both during the week and on weekends.
